3D printing training for teachers — how to use a printer in the classroom

The more engaging the form of learning, the more easily students take in new knowledge — and teachers play the key role in this. 3D printing training for teachers

The goal of our training is to prepare teaching staff, working in a range of institutions, to run lessons and extracurricular activities using a 3D printer. We pass on the essential knowledge about operating the device, the types of filament and other useful tools. It’s a unique chance to expand a school’s offer and make it more interdisciplinary. 3D printing technology works brilliantly in biology, maths, geography and history lessons. It’s used to design and create spatial models of insects, bones, figures, terrain features, war machines and much more.

For a school’s 3D printer purchase to bring the greatest benefit, the staff must be trained first. With us, teachers discover the possibilities of spatial design that will enrich and complete the curriculum. They’ll also gain skills in modelling functional objects, as well as servicing and maintenance. The device is highly mobile — it can be moved from one classroom to another.

What does good training actually change?

Our practice shows that effective training has to give a teacher three things — otherwise the printer goes back into the cabinet:

  1. Technical confidence — how to level the bed, set the temperature, recognise common print errors. Without this, the first failed print is discouraging for good.
  2. Ready-made lesson plans — not “the capabilities of the device”, but specific tasks on a specific topic, ready to use on Monday morning.
  3. A bank of models and sources — where to find reliable files, how to modify them, where to look for inspiration.

It’s the same philosophy on which we build our project paths: the mentor (or teacher) doesn’t start from scratch or write a syllabus late into the night — they get proven tools and focus on what matters most: the student.

Students who gain knowledge of modern technology from an early age have a far better start in adult, professional life. They can create both simple and complex projects — in a group or individually.
